ScienceOnline is an interactive resource for students and teachers of science.
The site provides access to a range of activities related to the New Zealand science curriculum for Years 9-11. Both Astronomy and Earth Science have been included as well as the core science areas of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. There are interactive notes and diagrams, self-marking tests, and useful links to other science websites. The site is completely up to date with NCEA requirements at Year 11 with details of achievement standards linked to topics in each of the five subject areas.
ScienceOnline has been developed by Peter Biggs, former science teacher and author of the Blue Science Book, and Sandy McGivern, science teacher, who manages the site.
ScienceOnline includes:
- All NCEA achievement standards for Year 11 General Science are included, with explanations and examples
- Junior science topics are included to support Year 9 and 10 students, as well as to provide helpful background for Year 11 students
- Examples and self-marking practice tests are provided at all levels with fresh tests being added regularly
- Interactive animations to illustrate key points
- Maintained external links to other resources on the web
- Regular updates on science news and issues from NZ and overseas
Who should subscribe?
- Students studying Year 11 science, whether looking for supplementary practice questions, or more information to support their classroom learning
- Year 9 and 10 students, to help them keep on top of their science course at school
- Students in Years 7 and 8 with an interest in science, who want a "sneak preview" of the secondary school material.
